History of Katas

Sanchin

Sanchin originated in China and arrived in Okinawa towards the end of the 1910's.

Kanshiwa

Kanshiwa was created by Kanei Uechi at the beginning of the 1950's.

Kanshu

Kanshu was made by Seiki Itokazu early in the 1950's.

Seichin

Seichin was made by Saburo Uehara towards the end of the 1950's.

Seisan

Seisan is one of the original three katas brought back from China.

Seiryu

Seiryu was made by Kanei Uechi at the beginning of the 1960's.

Kanchin

Kanchin was created by Kanei Uechi at the beginning of the 1960's.

Sanseiryu

Sanseiryu was introduced to Okinawa by Kanbun Uechi in 1910 and was one of the three original katas to come out of China.

Ryuko

Ryuko meaning Dragon and Tiger was made in 2000. It took the combined effort of the following seven experts to create the kata.
