The grading requirements listed below for children acts as a guideline only. Instructors are able to use their discretion as to what a child should be capable of at a certain level taking into account the childs age. However by the time the child is due to test for Junior Black Belt, they must have aquired all of the knowledge as shown below up to and including the knowledge for Junior 1st Dan. In contrast, the grading requirements for students over 16 years are adhered to. All junior and senior grades belt colours and tabs should be marked in the same way throughout the Okinawa Karate Association U.K.
